In a bid to end his government's crippling reputation for spin, Prime Minister Tony Blair is to form a new team to clean out the cluttered stables of Downing Street mendacity. Tony's new Ministry of Truth will be headed up by Mr Peter Mandelson, the MP for Hartlepool and a former Cabinet Minister, who will be ably assisted, amongst others, by Alastair 'The future Lord of Burnley' Campbell, a former Director of Government Communication.

George Orwell is said to be turning in his grave. Richard Littlejohn, 74, is said to be running out of different ways to say 'you couldn't make it up'.

Ministry of Truth? Don't they read 1984? Hell, that's the one government entity whose sole job is to re-write records to reflect the current regime's party line.

In other news: The Department of Defence has announced a multi-million pound rebranding exercise to transform itself into a new 'Ministry of Peace', which is being marketed with the somewhat controversial tagline 'War Is Peace'.

Meanwhile, Home Secretary David Blunkett insisted that 'honest and decent citizens who have nothing to hide' should not fear the Home Office's plans to construct a new 'Ministry of Love', which he insisted 'will strengthen us in our liberty'. When faced with criticism of the scheme, Mr. Blunkett told reporters earlier today, 'Freedom Is Slavery' and reportedly left a press conference early, telling bewildered members of the press that 'Ignorance Is Strength'.

Holy cow! I thought you guys were kidding. This thing really is supposed to be called the "Department of Truth" (that's what I get for not reading source articles).

That's the creepiest thing I've seen since the original Information Awareness Office logo.
