"To exist without enemies is to be a miserable jellyfish that stands for nothing."

Excellent quote there. It's easier to deal with enemies than jellyfishes.

Didn't Cheryl Crow say before the recent liberation of the Iraqi people that the solution to the problems facing the USA was to have no enemies.

Yessss...well. True enough.

But I always worry about observations like this one. People are too tempted to believe the corollary - in this case, that the more enemies one has, the more principled one is. When it may simply be that one is an insufferable dickwad.

It depends on who your enemies are. If they are Saddam, Kim, Khomeni, Osama, Jacques, Dominique, Gerhard, the UN and every other two-bit leftist dictatorship, I'd say you're pretty darned principled.

The rest of the quote, properly: " or to have ruthlessly killed all of your enemies."
