We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Eurosceptics should be supporting Kyiv

There are a few decent folk out there who really are wasted on that dismal collection of pond scum, the Tory Party (I refuse to call people who do not believe in the rule of law ‘conservatives’). And Daniel Hannan is certainly one of those glorious gleaming will-o-wisps of cogency floating above the festering miasma of Cameron’s Tory Blairism…

Yes indeed.

You do have a way with words 😀

Agreed. Too many Eurosceptics are falling into the old fallacy “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” and ‘siding’ with Russia or rather Putin’s regime due to the notion that the EU is meddling in the Ukraine and that Russia is entitled to be territorial over Ukraine.

Where’s ‘Kyiv’? Is it a long way from Lisboa? That apart, Mr Hannan shows the gaping chasm between Mr Cameron’s wing and his side of the party, putting across a very strong message.

As I said before, even if Russia went away, the Ukraine still has the problem of the mentality of too many people living their being hostile to the rule of law and property rights, but listening to the Budget Speech yesterday, the problem is also closer to home.

  • Where’s ‘Kyiv’?

It is Ukrainian Kyiv (Київ) rather that Russian Kiev (Киев).

Most Ukrainians I know would agree, and would respond that the only way that will ever change is for the Kremlin to piss off and for there to be the sort of internal political struggles needed to make their country a better place.

  • Is it just me, or is he addressing Farage rather than anyone in his own party?

Both I imagine Alisa as there are quite a few Tory wankers who like to spread it for Putin as well.

  • Yeah, I guess it figures.

  • And this mess is now starting to include the Baltics. I’d say that Putin has taken the measure of the Euro “leaders” and as a certain German did nearly a century ago has come to the conclusion “they are worms”. And the root cause is the same.

”Britain and France had to choose between war and dishonor. They chose dishonor. They will have war.” Winston Churchill

When you choose peace at any price the price can get very steep.

But, but, but Perry, err, you don’t believe in the rule of law…..

  • But I am not one of those people calling myself a conservative 😉

  • It’s one thing to argue that the EU is bad for the UK with its (still) superior institutions and quite another to claim the EU will be likewise bad for Ukraine with its rotten to non-existent institutions. In any case, Russia in its current shape has nothing to offer to Ukraine in that department.

Some people who are anti E.U. are pro Putin.

Daniel Hannon is not – and nor am I.

His wing of the Tory hobbits – is my wing also.

As for Mr David Cameron and Mr Osborne – I am happy to have full and frank discussion about these people.

    On May the 8th.
