Ms Sturgeon’s party has been in power since 2007, and won re-election in 2011. Its referendum on nominal independence within the EU (or “exchanging a political union in which Scots are 10% of the population for one where we’re 1%”, as I like to think of it), originally solemnly pledged for “the first year”, then absolutely-definitely-no-kidding-honest-injun the 31st of November 2010, is currently scheduled for 2014. Probably. (They think they might get a boost from the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Yeah, right.) And we still can’t get a straight answer about what it means for EU membership, not to mention the Nats’ flopping around like a wet haddock on EMU and border controls with the rump UK. It’s almost as if they didn’t know themselves.

So no “uncertainty” there, then.

The vile and disgusting corporate welfare supporting Economist magazine (may its bankruptcy be soon…) came out with a similar line of “argument” in the lead article in its latest edition.

In a speech in Dublin for the the British Irish Chamber of Commerce, Ms Sturgeon said the prospect of an in/out referendum on UK membership of the EU was causing damaging uncertainty for Scotland.

That’s irony for you.

And has anyone noticed how this supposed referendum, on which Cameron has reneged before, is taken as a given? Plus, let’s see a show of hands for the number of legacy media articles that have disinterestedly examined EU membership from a sovereignty point of view.
