We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day

I understand there’s a new sheriff in town. Who wants to kill him?

– said by the boss cowboy with the mustache (Slim Pickens?) in Blazing Saddles, to an enthusiastic response.

Blazing Saddles, what with Sheriff Obama and all, is now downright prophetic, in the sense that there must be Democrats who think they are living in this movie right now.

It’s showing on Brit TV right now. Earlier I set my TV hard disc to record this, and I just switched on my telly to catch that line.

After all these years I still can’t get over the Yiddish-speaking Indian chief referring to Cleavon Little as ‘schwarze’.

  • One of the funniest flicks ever made… indeed I would say only The Directors The Producers made me laugh harder.

“America is at that awkward stage. It’s too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards.” – Claire Wolfe, 101 Things to Do ‘Til the Revolution (1996)

She has since concluded that it is now time….

“They are only against the new sheriff because he is black” is indeed the Democrat line.

They never ask themselves “would he be in this office if he was not black”.

Someone who did not even serve one term in the United States Senate.

Someone who is still counted as a recent student – so recent that his college work is still treated as secret (as if he was still a child). Even the financial side of his life in these universities (Occidental, Columbia and Harvard are not cheap) is covered in mist.

Also a person who appears to have never had a proper job – but, somehow, was given various positions on the boards of important foundations (just as he was given positions at various universities – even though his [elite] school performance, as far as anybody knows, was poor).

Would Barry O’Obama (a white Irish kid) have got into Columbia or Harvard?

Would he have been given the editorship (no real power – but a nice title) of the student Law Review?

Would he have been given a position (although an odd one) teaching at the University of Chicago (no published academic work).

Then a position in the State Senate – every other Democrat candidate being struck off the ballot (so the position was given to him).

Then elected to the United States Senate on the basis of a massive media campaign in his favour.

Then (having not even served one term) elected President – on the basis of the same media campaign (it not having stopped since 2004 – and still continuing).

As a plot of a film the above is a lot less likely than “Blazing Sadles”.

    What is going on?

For most people his background (who-he-is) remains as unknown as it was in 2008 (indeed 2004).

All there is (for most people) is the media campaign.

He is a lovely man, his wife is a lovely woman – they both love and care about the people.

    The children are very cute.

The first family all love and care about you – the helpless voter who can do nothing for yourself or in voluntary cooperation with others.

He is gentle and kind – and by supporting him you prove that you are not a BIGOT.

The message of 2004 and 2008 – is still the media message now.

I just wish I could be amused by it.

Cleavon LIttle’s character in Blazing Saddles was Good, competent, and honest. Baraka Hussein Soetoro Obama is none of those things.

That is not a bigoted statement, it is three years and more of observation. The mulatto sumbitch oughta be strung up. For what he’s done mind you, not what color he isn’t.

Paul, Editor of the law journal is in fact a serious and prestigious position; however Obama was the President of the law review, and popularly elected figurehead position. It was a widely dispersed meme but incorrect that he was the editor.

I believe it is also a known but little publicized fact that Obama was indeed an “equal opportunities” student at Harvard.

  • Edward

It’s also worth remembering that Obama only got elected to the US Senate because the popular Republican candidate Jack Ryan, then leading in the polls, had to bow out following the unsealing of his divorce records. An unprecedented event instigated by the Obama campaign. Barry’s played dirty pool his whole career.

Blazing Saddles never did much for me. In fact, Mel Brooks has never done much for me. A few funny moments but some awfully tedious hours.

  • Ernie G

I expect that what you saw was heavily edited. For example, when I saw it on TV, the bean scene, one of the funniest in movies, was ruined because they removed the sound track.

  • Paul Marks

    Ed – my apologies.

“President” is what I meant by “nice title” – why I typed “editor” I do not know (other than rampent senility).

In a recent comment I also said that 1982 was “twenty” years ago.

Paul Marks has his finger on the sinister aspect of Obama–why is it that no one can get the information about him that anyone else, for a wide variety of lesser, private sector positions, would have to provide or not get the job? His birth certificate is the least of it at this point.

Obama couldn’t get a commission in the armed forces, refusing as he does to provide this information; even if he could, he wouldn’t qualify for any sort of sensitive clearance with what we do know about him.

My father practiced law, at first as an assistant District Attorney, but mostly in private practice, for thirty years. His time in the Air Force during the 1950’s was spent in an intelligence squadron. I asked him what an analyst or cop might make of Obama’s secrecy, and he tells me that it sort of looks like what is termed a “legend”. If he were anyone else, and had something to do with murky goings-on, he would prick the curiosity of a counterintelligence man or police detective. Someone who tries to keep secrets stands out.

We have a lot of questions about him, ones that most of the rest of us have had to answer in detail at some point in our lives, and not an awful lot of answers available. It boils down to one question: What’s so precious about him, what has to be protected, that he gets a pass the rest of us don’t?

For the libertarians reading this, could we take the comments you will make about providing personal data to the “.gov” as read? I’m not in favor of telling the revenuers a damned thing, but I also don’t pose the threat to liberty that Obama and every stinking man jack of his stinking party and the lousy smelly Obama voters do.

Perry, I think you meant the Producers, not the Directors. If you did, I agree. Not an ounce of slack in that movie. Solid gold from start to finish.

Paul Marks, as usual, has the absolute measure of Barry… Who dat man?

Talking of which, The Pied Piper of doom? and angel?

    To quote the movie:

Hedley Lamarr: I want you to round up every vicious criminal and gunslinger in the west. Take this down.

I want rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass-kickers, shit-kickers and Methodists.

  • Did Otto just identify the Democratic base?

  • Paul Marks

Methodism – the Church that has become (yet another) Church-of-governmentp-spending.

And a I thing that George Bush and Hillary Clinton have in common.

Of course we are not allowed to talk about Comrade Barack’s “Church”.

We are just allowed to say that he is a good Christian who happened to go a Marxist Liberation Theology “Church” for 20 years (and was the left hand man of the person in charge) – but did not notice anything odd in the Church or in the “Audacity of Hope” man.

    Barack Obama.

I understand international affairs – I wrote a thesis on it when I was a graduate student at Columbia.

    “May we see the thesis?”.

    No.

That should have been the end of Barack’s campaign.

    For any position of trust.

    What to do about Barry?
erm.. why not give him to Mongo!

  • Richard Thomas

Henry, Barry is done hopefully and I’m sure information will trickle out over the forthcoming years that will, quite simply, flabergast us all.

The more pertinent question is what to do about the mechanism which conspired to hide and obscure so many of the genuine questions about him.

I find it hard to believe that we haven’t heard more about him from the many people who must have known him through the years. There are also some questions about Bush’s history that never really got answered satisfactorily. This is simply both unacceptable and unbelievable for someone who attains such high public office., especially one which is based on the vote (not popular of course) of a nation of hundreds of millions of people.

  • Henry, Barry is done hopefully…

To be replaced by Romney, someone who is a tax-and-regulate Republican who will do nothing to actually dismantle the voracious institutions hell bent on consuming western civilisation… of course he probably would not get elected if he wanted to do that (which he does not), and so the system must, and will quite soon, collapse into ruin. We have been past the point of no return for quite some time now.

  • Henry-thanks for the laugh.

“Obamagram for Mongo! Obamagram for Mongo!”
    “Mongo like free healthcare”
    BOOOOOOM!

All that’s left is to have the old lady say “Up yours, Kenyan!”

    As Paul said.

The media is in the bag for BHO, Only last week, the Daily Telegraph ran a self-penned piece in its magazine by Michelle about how great she was, and how thrilled she was that the National Parks Service gave her permission to build her vegetable garden in the grounds of the White House (sure Michelle, there was a big chance they were going to refuse). Her image as the modern Marie Antoinette was completed by the group photo of the fourteen National Park gardeners who tend this latter day Petit Trianon.

Actually, said in jest but with a more than an element of truth.

I think the next US election is trying to be lost by the republicans. With all the funny money inflating the economy (in the wrong places) and the euro on the last phase of a kamikaze trajectory, they fear that it will all blow up on the next watch regardless of who is captain.

Better to look like trying and failing, than to not bother at all. Moreover, as US campaigning is underpinned by MSM advertising money, it’s in everyone’s interest to make it look like a close run event so that everyone keeps spending up to the last minute.

Barry has received a free ride because to criticise or question him would fall under the ‘racist’ tag. I watched the election as it happened and what got me was the number of his supporters that gave their motivation as “he’s one of us” i.e. black or “he’s a change from Bush”, none that I recall had a remark about policies.

Although many Americans suddenly realised their error once he started spending like a drunk sailor, attacked anyone who had managed to get off the first rung of the ladder, and rode roughshod over the Constitution, they are still outnumbered by those who believe he is a messiah on part1 of a mission… just needing a little faith to deliver in part2. Hell, it must be true as he got a Nobel prize after a short few days of clocking on!

“we have to act, and act fast… I’m leaving!”

  • Paul Marks

Henry – you remind me that I have yet bought my tickets for a trip to Israel at the time of the election (time to call in some debts so I can afford the tickets).

Regardless of the result I do not want to see the election (from the United States or Britain).

Of course Perry does not mention the big difference between Mitt and Barry.

Mitt will be horrified by the collapse (he really will), whereas Barry will delight in it.

The collapse of the United States (indeed the West in general) is what he has desired all his life.

Right from those three hour (per day) indoctrination sessions that his mother used to give him – before he was even old enough to go to school.
