We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

That was one hell of a tea party!

The LA Times blog has reported an explanation for the incredible Sunday fund raising feat of the Ron Paul campaign.

Back in November, the Paul campaign reported raising $4.2 million online in one day with what they call a “money bomb,” a fund raising gimmick devised by Trevor Lyman, a musician and self-appointed Paul fund raiser profiled by The Times’ Dan Morain yesterday. Sunday’s gimmick was to celebrate the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party on a website with a drawing of Paul that looks remarkably like that president on the penny.

I am happy to see the LA Times covering this story and extend a hearty Samizdata thank you to Nikki at that publication for informing us!

    “All that money…pissed away!”

Nah. Just think of the damage it could have done in the hands of one of the Statist candidates…

  • We certainly live in interesting times. The crunch will come, of course, in the next few weeks with the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary results. All of us RPers (bad people though we are), are convinced that our Man is going to do a lot better than the “scientific” polls suggest – being Misesian/Rothbardian human condition optimists does tend to give us a very positive view on the world! 🙂

If the Good Doctor does get votes in line with the polls, some of us will get all conspiratorial and accuse the Republican party of rigging the polls, but most of us will have to eat humble pie, and accept that Hoppe is right, in that democracy sucks. But if RP does do better than the polls suggest, will the MSM eat humble pie and admit that their “scientific” polling techniques are broken?

I should guess not; they’ll probably come out with some other nonsense about hardcore militants spamming the initial polls. But another block of credibility will have been knocked out from under them.

Whatever the case, the proof of the pudding will be in the voting in the snow, and I for one will be crossing every finger and every toe in the hope that RP does do much better than the polls currently predict, if only to see how the US MSM deals with this mental disconnect.

Roll on the initial primaries. Let us see which way the dice will fall. It ain’t good for the nerves, but if RP can put up, let’s hope this will force his sneering detractors to shut up.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they attack you, then you win in New Hampshire. (Or at least come third.)

  • So now is the time for the pro-war among us to decide whether they want to continue to surrender to IslamoFascists.

You see, I’ve decided you’re right. They hate us for our freedom and prosperity. Your guys, Shrub, Rudy McRomney, Huckelberry, all want to surrender … they want to surrender our freedom and prosperity so that they Iran won’t invade America and impose Sharia law on us. They are convinced that we can’t take Iran, so we have to destroy our country so it’s not worth conquering.

Well, I say enough defeatism. Are you so terrified that you are willing to give up your last, best shot at freedom in order to buy some temporary security? If so, vote for one of the cowardly candidates, give up our freedom and prosperity, continue our aggressive foreign policy, and see if they decide we are no longer free and prosperous to be worth attacking. But if you are a man, if you are willing to take a risk for freedom, then vote for Ron Paul, buy a gun, demand secure borders, and say “a million for defense, but not one dime for nation building”!

  • They hate us for our freedom and prosperity.

Schmuck. They hate us for not being Muslims. It really is that simple.
