Sparing a thought for a friend

Good luck, Mr Dodge. Andrew’s recent diagnosis has reminded me – I am 41 – to get a health check done once a year and catch these gremlins early (I have been remarkably lucky with my health, but no point in taking it for granted).

What a way to mark Guy Fawke’s night.

Colonoscopy is no fun, but it is undignified rather than painful and your dignity is nothing against the risks you face without it.

“I’ve gone as far as your appendix” said the doctor rather nonchalantly in my case…

Only if they don’t see anything that calls for a little biopsy.

Two people I know – one of them my own mum – were diagnosed with exactly the same thing about a year ago. Both of them are absolutely fine now. The treatment takes it out of you a bit (pun only semi-intended), but it doesn’t seem to be nearly as awful as you might expect.

    Best of luck, Andrew.

Good luck to Andrew – and good luck to the other people getting themselves tested.

Well even the biopsy wasn’t painful in my case. Even if it were, the alternative is a lot worse…

    – and all on the NHS!
