We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

There are signs of an unwelcome strain of unilateralism in this country. It is leading to dangerous instability:

“A £10,000 motorway speed camera has been cut down with a blow torch and thrown off a bridge.

PC Adams said the camera was a write-off and the film inside would have been ruined.”

I wish it to be known that I am outraged by this senseless, fascistic attack on an innocent speed camera that was simply going about its lawful business. All civilised people should rise up in righteous anger and resolve that this kind of thing should never happen again!

  • I hope someone got the incident on film!

    Oh, wait…

If a motorway camera costs £10,000 then if we(by which i mean the freaking government) had not bought any cameras then we could have built our own space shuttle replacement/space elevator with the money instead (calculations based upon 1 camera for every 3 square metres of tarmac which is where we are heading)

Are Ladbrokes giving odds as to the number of cameras downed before capture ??

What are the odds of a motorist reporting a “downing”
to getting beaten by an angry mob ?

    Oh never mind…..

Here, they put the cameras in vans parked off the side of the road with 2 ‘human shields’ inside, lest the last picture on the roll be a car with mud-covered plates and a shotgun protruding from the window.
    Keep up the good work.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, that an innocent police camera doing its duty to the Fatherland was so badly treated!

Remember: Ve have ways to make you pay!

Here in the US, speed enforcement cameras were tried.

    They failed.

People took the plates off of their cars, put on masks, and sped past the cameras repeatedly.

On the other hand, red light cameras have been effective. Probably because no one is crazy enough to repeatedly run a red light.

I am sure some back bencher in Parliament will now demand the removal of all blowtorches, matches, candles, lighters, and other sources of flame from Her Royal Majesty’s subjects.
