Samizdata slogan of the day

I found while driving in Wyoming that wearing a stetson and driving a beat-up pickup meant you could go as fast as you like, while the police picked up Californian winnebagos that went one mph over 55. After all, they wanted to bring money into the state, not merely circulate it.
-Terry Pratchett

I hear that the winnebagos were solar powered and were going down-hill.

Think of the environmental damage if the hotel-on-wheels hit the pick-up!

  • Where are you getting all these wonderful Pratchett quotes from?

Sounds about like Wyoming. Sounds like most of the Western U.S. actually. I live in Arizona, and if there is one thing you do not do in Arizona, it is speed with Cali plates on your car. But hey, when your speed limit is 75 MPH on the interstate, there isn’t all that much need to go much faster. (You Germans with your autobahn can pooh-pooh me all you like, 80 – 85 MPH is plenty fast enough to get me where I’m going in the land of tumbleweeds and saguaros.

  • As a Wyoming resident I fully support allowing all California Winnebagos to speed, provided that they are headed OUT of Wyoming.

Besides, since Wyoming is home to the annual Wind Festival (held from Jan 1 to Dec. 31 each year) any Winnebago driver would be smart to speed, so as to make it quickly through the state before he gets blown off the road.
